Immunology

Immunology studies the immune system, which protects the body from infection through various lines of defence. Dysfunction of the immune system can lead to autoimmune diseases, allergies and cancer.

The most common immunology tests are:

  • Tumour markers: TPSA, FPSA, CEA, Ca 15-3, Ca 125, Ca 19-9, Ca 72-4, α-fetoprotein, Calcitonin (CT), Thyroglobulin (TG), Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA)
  • Autoimmunity: anti-CCP, anti-dsDNA IgG, ANA, ENA, Rheumatoid factor (RF)
  • Infectious disease antibodies: Infectious mononucleosis: [Epstein-bar virus (EBV VCA IgM, EBV IgG)]
  • Prenatal screening tests: Toxoplasma gondii (IgG & IgM antibodies), Rubella (IgG & IgM antibodies), Cytomegalovirus (IgG & IgM antibodies)
  • Infectious Mononucleosis: Epstein-bar virus (EBV VCA IgM, EBV IgG)
  • Thyroid autoimmunity: Anti-thyroid Peroxidase antibodies (anti-TPO), Antithyroglobulin antibodies (Anti-TG), Thyroid receptor antibodies (TSI)
  • Cardiac markers: Troponin T (cTnT), Troponin Ι (cTnI), Creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), Natriuretic peptide (BNP & NT pro-BNP), Myoglobin, Homocysteine, High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), Fibrinogen
