Clinical haematology studies blood and blood disorders.

The most common haematology tests are:

  • Full blood count (FBC) testing
    • red blood cell count (RBC)
    • white blood cell count (WBC)
    • haemoglobin (HGB)
    • haematocrit (HCT)
    • platelets (PLT)
    • derived values (MCV – MCH – MCHC – RDW)
  • Microscopic examination of blood (Film)
  • Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)
  • Haemoglobin electrophoresis (Hb electrophoresis)
  • Blood clotting tests: Prothrombin Time (PT), International Normalised Ratio (INR), Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT), Fibrinogen
  • Blood group (Rhesus)
